In a previous article, I wrote about how Apple has always been the one to over hype its own product. Now I understand that this is part of the brain washing techniques that Steve imposes over his loyal Apple fanboys. Jobs spoke so highly about many of his the iPhone 4’s features. The number one thing that came to my mind when i reminisce on the WWDC is the reasoning he gave for having the antenna on the outside of the phone. Jobs claimed that the new design was created in order to improve the call quality. However by now we all know that is not true. Now, let’s discuss a few of the issues that the iPhone 4 has been facing, and how these problems where played down and a little added speculation.
Inverted Volume Buttons?
This may not be Apples fault directly. The blame can probably be casted on the manufacturers. People have been complaining about how the iPhone shows the ‘plus’ button where the ‘minus’ button should be and vise versa. No software update can be given to fix that. Its a careless mistake that a proper inspection would have been able to correct. It’s likely that, with Apple’s awesome customer support that you may be able to get an exchange. Just don’t wait too long. Apple usually replaces customer’s phones with refurbished models. So your best bet is to call them up while they’re low on refurbished stock.
Rear-Facing Camera Doesn’t Work
What’s the point of having such a beautiful camera if you can’t take a picture? Sadly 23 percent of users who took a survey over at MobileCrunch confirmed having this problem. When a user takes a snap shot, the digital camera shutter closes and stays closed and causes the phone to freeze, rendering the back facing camera as useless. This issue can more than likely be solved by a software update. Lets see what happens.

Glass is Easily Scratched
On Apple’s website they boasted that “all the breakthrough technology in iPhone 4 is situated between two glossy panels of aluminosilicate glass — the same type of glass used in the windshields of helicopters and high-speed trains. Chemically strengthened to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic, the glass is ultradurable and more scratch resistant than ever.” Over hype anyone?
The guys over at Engadget did a scratch test. The results? Check out the pics below. Just for fun check out the EVO 4g scratch test after you check out those pictures.
Proximity Sensor isn’t detecting your face?
Percentage of iPhone users affected: 12 percent (MobileCrunch)
In plain English, this means that when you put the iPhone 4 to your face it does shut the screen off so that your face doesn’t accidentally end the phone call. I actually watched one of my friends suffer from this before the issue was reported. At least, for a limited time if this is a software issue, you can have an excuse for hanging up on your spouse. Just say “sorry hunny, my brand new iPhone 4 is not working the way it should.” I’m sure she will forgive you and turn her hatred to Mr. Jobs.
Screen yellowing?
Percentage of iPhone users affected: 24 percent (MobileCrunch)
In an article I wrote recently, I spoke on this issue saying “Early iPhone 4 users reported a screen issue. Users reported seeing yellow spots showing up on that crisp high res Retina Screen.” Some of these users reported blobs of yellow, while some others reported lines of yellow. However, this issue has been regarded as rush work. Meaning that the glue between the screen and the phone is yet to dry. Waiting it out is the only option anyone has given us. Although, Apple has not yet made an official statement regarding this issue. If this was the answer to the issue, something so simple, I think that Apple would have responded by now. Also, I don’t think a software update will fix this one.
Antenna Issues
I personally tested this one with three other friends using the same iPhone 4. When i held the phone in respective to how i casually hold any phone i noticed a lost of signal (2 bars) after a minute or so. However my other two friends (who held the phone in a similar fashion) were unable to reproduce the signal lost. So i came to the conclusion that the problem (lost of signal) was based on the variable (the human). However, when my friends held the device with their left hands they noticed a sharp decline in signal. Looks like the iPhone isn’t for president Obama who is left handed.
People ‘claim’ that Steve responded by telling us that we are holding the phone wrong. Whether this statement is true or not it did give birth to this:
Another minor issue
Now this is not one that has been wildly spreed. It is also possible that it is only this particular iPhone. Ether way i must share it. When I used a flash light application in order to check for any yellowing on the screen a friend pointed out that at the top were two checkered rows. Try it out and let me know if you experience any similar problems.
Rumors have been floating around about an update. From what I see not all of these problems can be fixed with a software update. The world doesn’t work like that (yet).
I’m anxious to see Apple’s response.

Apple offers customers a free case until September 30 or a refund within 30 days of purchase because of the signal problems. But the new video call funtion is so good, but you have to call an other iphone 4.
